Okon & The Movement (B)

When Judith Okon arrived at the conservatory in 2009 she used this exceptional opportunity to exploit the numerous creative encounters she had during this year. Together with guitar player Lukas Somers and Louis Evrard on drums she set up the perfect platform for her true soul voice, the ever-inspired playing of Lukas as well as the ‘no bullshit’-beats produced by Louis.
Once these foundations were firmly in place, the trio started the quest for missing ingredients to spice up their soulful dish. Bass player Boris van Overschee was an obvious choice; Lukas and he played leading roles in the projects proceeding OTM. In a similar fashion, piano player David Thomaere joined the band. In 2012 David, an all-around pianist who balances between his roots in jazz and his love for groove, won the renowned ‘Toots Thielemans-award’; the prize given to the best graduate student at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. To top it all Sep François adds his percussive genius to the band, giving that magic touch to the beats and creating a recognizable yet unique sound for the band melting together their three main influences: hip-hop, soul and jazz.
